Nashville Postpartum Doulas

Looking for a little guidance or extra help after baby is born? Hire a postpartum doula. She can help you with new mom tips and tricks, plus hold baby so you can rest of take a shower. Need help with other kids or overnight care? She can do that too. She fills in where family can't.

You’ve just been discharged from the hospital or returned home from the birth center, and now it’s just you and this tiny new human. Your whole family is in a state of transition: the new mother is healing, recovering, and dealing with all the physical and emotional changes of recently having given birth. Both parents are learning how to care for a new baby, how to function on less or sometimes even little sleep, and really getting to know their new baby. The baby is trying to make sense of the change from a warm, dark environment where he or she could always hear mother’s heartbeat to a birth, loud world where baby and mother are two separate people. You might feel lost in a fog and uncertain how to make all theses transitions. Perhaps you have questions about newborn care, breast or bottle feeding, infant sleep, or baby wearing. Maybe you just really need a couple nights of good sleep. If any of these things apply to you, you need a postpartum doula!

A postpartum doula is a highly trained professional in the areas of postpartum recovery, support, and infant care. She has a wide range of training and experience, as well as a caring, compassionate heart and a desire to help ease this transitional period for you and your family. She will walk alongside you as your new family settles in. She can help you with everything from breast or bottle feeding, infant sleep questions, and baby wearing while providing nurturing and support to the newly postpartum mother to overnight baby care and sleep education so that you can get a good night’s sleep. She’s not a fairy godmother, but pretty close!

In addition to postpartum doula services, we also offer trained Newborn Care Specialist (NCS) Services, meaning we have additional, specialized training and experience in caring for newborns (birth- 3 months of age). We’ll be there every step of the way to help you learn how to care for your new baby and answer all your questions. We’ll also be there for overnight NCS services to help establish healthy sleep routines that will maximize everyone’s rest and lead to healthy sleep patterns through the baby and toddler years.

We charge $50 an hour. Our services can be purchased in 4 hour or more blocks for daytime care or 8 hour or more blocks for overnight care.

2. Is there a limit of time blocks we can buy?

No, you can buy as many blocks as you need and book us for day or night times.

3. Can you get a discount rate if you buy a large number of hours?

No, we give the same quality of care whether you hire us for 8 hours or 72 hours. The rate is still the same.

4. How many hours to parents typically purchase?

Most parents purchase about 40 hours of postpartum support and use it in the first 2 weeks. The first week they might want night care and the next week might have mainly day care mixed with one overnight.

5. What if I purchase hours and don't want to use them until after family leaves? Is that ok?

We give you the flexibility to choose the hours and when you want them to be used. You might want support the first week and then only have support for a day or so the next few weeks. Some parents choose to not have us come until all the family has finished visiting or they just have us come in during the night so that mom can sleep.

6. What does a postpartum doula do?

Her first priority is mom and baby. She answers mom's questions and helps her get adjusted to a new routine. If she has free time she becomes a mom helper. She can pick up groceries, do meal prep, load the dishwasher, do the laundry, feed kids, hold baby, do light housekeeping work, help with breastfeeding, bottle cleaning, etc. She helps to keep the house running smoothly while mom recovers.

7.  How do I hire a postpartum doula?

Contact us for a free consult. We will meet with you to review our fees and answer any questions you have. Next, you pick the number of hours you want support and our postpartum doula will create a postpartum support plan with you. Once you pay, we will add you to our calendar and start serving you on the days and times you desire.

8. What if I want more hours?

We have a minimum of 4 hours booked for day support or 8 hours booked for night support. You are welcome to purchase more hours after the first ones have been used. We will do our best to honor the hours you request given our availability. Payment must be made before the postpartum doula comes to support you.

9. What if I am unsure how many hours I want?

We know that with a newborn, the situation changes daily and we can be flexible for you. Many parents are not sure how many hours they want total and that is ok. We recommend that you pick to hire us to for the time of day or night that you need the most support right now. Then, you can add more time as needed. Our rate is $50 an hour. Most client will start with a block of 24 hours and use them day or night as needed. Feel free to email us at blissfulbirthingtn@gmail.com or call us to discuss 859-533-4667.

We accept a variety of payments including Cash, Check, Venmo, Paypal, Apple Pay, Credit card, and HSA account. We collect payment before our shift to serve you begins.

12. Do you do First 24 Hour after birth care?

Yes, we can cater that to you as needed. This care if different from our normal postpartum care because we are charting temperature of mom and baby, watching for bleeding, and helping with after birth care. Many home birth midwives suggest that you hire a doula for care right after birth and our experienced doulas can do that for you. This allows you and your partner to rest after a birth as our experienced hands care for mom and baby to make a better recovery. This care is also good for a mom who has just gotten home from the hospital and wants more support.
